He divides the portieres and enters the upstage area.

AMANDA and LAURA are seated at a drop-leaf table.
아만다와 로라가 드롭 리프 테이블에 앉아 있습니다.

Eating is indicated by gestures without food or utensils. AMANDA faces the audience. TOM and LAURA are Seated is profile.

The interior has lit up softly and through the scrim we see AMANDA and LAURA seated at the table in the upstage area 실내가 은은하게 밝아지고 스크림 너머로 무대 위 테이블에 앉아 있는 아만다와 로라가 보입니다.

AMANDA [calling] Tom? Yes, Mother.
AMANDA:  We can't say grace until you come to the table!
너희들이 테이블에 오기 전에는 감사기도를 할 수가 없다!

TOM: Coming, Mother. [He bows slightly and withdraws, reappearing a few moments later in his place at the table.]
갈게요, 어머니. [그는 (관객들에게)살짝 고개를 숙이고 물러났다가 잠시 후 식탁에 있던 자리에 다시 나타났다.]

AMANDA [to her son]: Honey, don't push with your fingers. [아들에게]: 얘야, 손가락으로 누르지 마.
If you have to push with something, the thing to push with is a crust of bread.
무언가로 밀어야 한다면 밀어야 할 대상은 빵 껍질이야.

And chew ! chew! Animals have sections in their stomachs which enable them to digest food without mastication, but human beings are supposed to chew their food before they swallow it down.
그리고 씹어! 씹어! 동물의 위에는 저작(咀嚼:씹는 것) 없이도 음식을 소화할 수 있는 부분이 있지만, 인간은 음식을 삼키기 전에 씹어 먹어야 한다.

Eat food leisurely, son, and really enjoy it.
여유롭게 음식을 먹어라, 아들아, 정말 맛있게 먹어라.

A well-cooked meal has lots of delicate flavours that have to be held in the mouth for appreciation.
잘 조리된 음식은 입안에서 씹어봐야 그 맛을 느낄 수 있는 섬세한 풍미가 가득하거든.

TOM: I haven't enjoyed one bite of this dinner because of your constant directions on how to eat it.
어떻게 먹으라고 계속 지시하느라 저녁을 한 입도 제대로 먹지 못했어요.
 It's you that makes me rush through meals with your hawk-like attention to every bite I take.
매처럼 한 입 한 입 꼼꼼히 살피는 엄마때문에  식사를 서두르게 되는 겁니다. (급하게 먹게 만드는 것은 엄마다)
