드디어 The Pearl of Love의 마지막 편입니다. 내용이 비교적 읽기 쉽고 재미있는 내용이라 접근하기 좋을 것으로 생각됩니다. 처음 접할때는 좀 어렵지만 계속 반복하다 보면 나아질 것으로 생각합니다. 함께 하기를 기대합니다.

 

Only one thing there was to mar the absolute harmony. 완벽한 조화를 해치는 것은 단 한 가지 뿐이었습니다. *mar 손상시키다

 There was a certain disproportion about the sarcophagus. It had never been  enlarged, and indeed how could it have been enlarged since the early  days. 석관에는 어느 정도 불균형이 있었습니다. 한 번도 확대된 적이 없었고, 실제로 초기부터 어떻게 확대될 수 있었을까요?  * certain확실한, 틀림없는 * disproportion 불균형

It challenged the eye； it nicked the streaming lines. In that  sarcophagus was the casket of lead and silver, and in the casket of lead  and silver was the queen, the dear immortal cause of all this beauty. 그것은 시선을 사로잡았고 흐르는 선을 훔쳤습니다. 그 석관 안에는 납과 은으로 만든 관이 있었고, 납과 은으로 만든 관 안에는 이 모든 아름다움의 불멸의 원인인 여왕이 있었죠. * challenged the eye 눈에  거슬렸다 * cause =motive * nick 흠을 내다

But now that sarcophagus seemed no more than a little dark oblong that  lay incongruously in the great vista of the Pearl of Love.

그러나 이제 그 석관은 사랑의 진주의 멋진 풍경에 부조화롭게 놓인 약간 어두운 직사각형에 지나지 않는 것처럼 보였습니다. *oblong 직사각형의 incongruously 어울지 않게

It was as if  someone had dropped a small valise upon the crystal sea of heaven. Long the prince mused, but no one knew the thoughts that passed  through his mind. At last he spoke. He pointed.  "Take that thing away," he said. (1925)

마치 누군가 하늘의 수정 같은 바다 위에 작은 가방을 떨어뜨린 것 같았어요. 왕은 오랫동안 생각에 잠겼지만 그의 머릿속을 스쳐 지나가는 생각은 아무도 몰랐다. 마침내 그가 말했다. 그가 가리켰다.  "저것을 치워라." 그가 말했다. (1925) * valise 손가방
