I have a Dream (나에게는 꿈이 있습니다) -4

But there is something that I must say to my people who  stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of  justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must  not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy  our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness  and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the  high plane of dignity  and discipline. We must not allow our  creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.

하지만 정의의 궁전으로 이어지는 뜨거운 출발점에 서있는 내 형제들에게 하고  싶은 말이 있습니다. 우리의 정당한 자리를 획득하는 과정에 있어서 잘못된 행위를 저질러서는 안됩니다. 원한과 증오의 잔에 담긴 물을 마심으로써 자유에 대한 우리의 갈증을 만족시키려 하지 맙시다. 우리는 영원히 위엄과 규율이라는 높은 차원에서 우리의 투쟁을 수행해야만 합니다. 우리는 우리의 창조적인 투쟁이  물리적인 폭력으로 변질되도록 허용해서는 안되겠습니다.

★the warm threshold: 뜨거운 출발점.  threshold: 문지방, 출발점, ★drink from the cup of bitterness and hatred: 원한과 증오의 잔을 마시다 cf. drink from the stream (the fountain), ★the high plane of dignity and discipline: 위엄과 규율이라는 높은 차원  lead 안내하다, 연결되다,  wrongful 부당한, deed 행위, bitterness 쓴맛, 고통, hatred [ ˈheɪtrɪd ] 증오 conduct실시하다.  struggle 투쟁해다.  plane 차원,  dignity 위엄,존엄성  discipline 규율 violence 폭력,격렬함,  degenerate 퇴폐적인, 악화되다

Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of  meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new  militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must  not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our  white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today,  have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our  destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our  freedom. We cannot walk alone.
우리는 계속해서 백인들이 우리에게 가하는 물리적인 폭력을 영적인 힘으로 대처하는 장엄한 고상함의 수준으로 까지 올라가야 합니다. 흑인 사회를 삼키고 있는 놀랍고도 새로운 호전성이 우리를 모든 백인들에 대한 불신으로 이끌어서는  안 됩니다. 왜냐하면 많은 백인 형제들이, 오늘 여기에 그들이 참여한 것을 통해  입증되는 것처럼, 그들의 운명이 우리의 운명과 연결되어 있다는 것을 그리고 그들의 자유가 우리의 자유와 풀 수 없을 정도로 얽혀 있다는 것을 깨닫게 되었기  때문입니다. 우리는 홀로 걸어갈 수는 없습니다.
