I have a Dream (나에게는 꿈이 있습니다) - 5

I have a Dream (나에게는 꿈이 있습니다)  5회차입니다. 영어를 매일 읽는 다는 것이 쉽지 않습니다. 그러나 매일 조금씩 공부해 나가는 습관을 갖는 것은 쉽지 않을까요? 그래서 많은 분량을 올리지는 않습니다. 함께 공부해 봅시다.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall  march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are  asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be  satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is  the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We  can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the  fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the  highways and the hotels of the cities.

그리고 우리가 걸어갈 때, 우리는 앞으로 나아갈 것을 약속해야 합니다. 우리는  돌아갈 수 없습니다. 시민권 지지자들에게 “당신들은 언제 만족할 것인가?”라고  묻는 사람들이 있습니다. 흑인들이 경찰의 이루 말할 수 없는 폭력이 야기한 공  포의 희생자인 한 우리는 절대로 만족할 수 없습니다. 여행의 피로로 지친 우리의 육신이 고속도로의 모텔이나 도시의 호텔에서 숙소를 구할 수 없는 한 우리는  절대로 만족할 수가 없습니다.

We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility  is from a smaller ghetto to a large one. We can never be  satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a  Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to  vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be  satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and  righteousness like a mighty stream.

흑인들의 기본 이동거리가 작은 게토에서 큰 게토로 옮겨가는 정도에 불과한 한  우리는 만족할 수 없습니다. 미시시피의 흑인이 투표를 할 수조차 없고, 뉴욕의 흑인이 뽑아 줄 사람이 없다고 믿는 한 우리는 결코 만족할 수 없습니다. 아니,  아니, 우리는 만족하지 않습니다. 그리고 우리는 만족하지 않을 것입니다, 정의가 물처럼 흘러가고 의로움이 거대한 흐름으로 흐를 때까지는.

★mobility: 이동 거리  ★ghetto: (소수민족, 흑인의) 빈민가. ★as long as ~ which to vote: 미시시피의 흑인은 투표권이 없고 뉴욕의 흑인  은 뽑아 줄 사람이 없다고 믿는 한, ★justice rolls down like waters: 정의가 강물처럼 흐르다. [구약성서] 아모스 서(Amos) 5:24참조 , 오직 정의를 물 같이, 공의를 마르지 않는 강 같이 흐르게 할 지어다 ,  roll 굴리다. 뒹굴다. 통, 두루마리 righteousness 정의,공정, 당연 mighty 강력한, 힘쎈

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out  of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh  from narrow jail cells. Some of you have come from areas  where your quest for freedom left you battered by the  storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police  brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

여러분 중 몇몇은 엄청난 시련과 고난을 벗어나 여기 와 있는 사실을 제가 모르는 건 아닙니다. 여러분 중 몇몇은 비좁은 감방에서 막 나왔습니다. 여러분 중  몇몇은 자유를 향한 여러분의 추구가 박해의 폭풍에 의해 난타 당하고 경찰의 만행이라는 강풍으로 비틀거리는 상태가 되었던 곳으로부터 왔습니다. 여러분은 창조적 고난의 베테랑들입니다. 부당한 시련에는 보상이 있다는 믿음으로 계속 나아 가십시오
